Recycled Art, Who Needs Paint When You Have Old Magazines

I recently started an art project that utilizes small pieces of magazines as the medium for creating my work. I’ve chosen to recreate the photo of David Pharaoh, “Last King of the Montauk”, who’s image appears on the cover of the book, The Montaukett Indians of Eastern Long Island (photo: right).

I’ve been tearing off small piecess from the pages of magazines that have the right color palate to accurately reflect the tones in the photo. The canvas I’m working on is 6′ x 4′ and I have a feeling this is going to take me a while to complete, so please feel free to send any of your previously read magazine my way.

Full shot of the canvas.

Side-by-side with the photo and the artwork.

  3. I think stippling would break my hand there just is way to much black for that. Mocassins are the only way to go up here, it’s way to cold for just socks.
