Last weekend I was hanging out in Bossier, a city located in the heart of Texarkana (not Arklatex), when my girlfriend suggested that we try a new pizza place that claimed to have “New York” pizza. Being a New Yorker, I was skeptical to say the least as the most popular pizza down here is Papa John’s.
The place was called Pietro’s, which eased my mind a little because there’s no way I’m getting pizza unless there’s an Italian behind the counter. Thankfully the guy helping us was Italian, a New Yorker even. He felt the need to explain to us how he’s from Brooklyn and the place is set up like an authentic New York pizzeria (I’m still keeping my New York cover at the moment).
To really test the place, I went with a sicilian pie and told him “I’m from Long Island, let’s see if it’s really like New York pizza.” To which he said, “No way, I’m from Valley Stream.” Now I don’t know about anyone else, but to me Valley Stream is not Brooklyn, but I digress.
End result, this was fantastic New York-style pizza in the heart of Texarkana. If you’re ever in Bossier, stop by Pietro’s.
However, if you’re actually from Bossier you will probably choose Papa John’s instead. Holy Cannoli!!!
