The lifespan of an uncarved jack-o’-lantern lends itself to a new benchmark for measuring the mildness of a city’s winter. It’s the latter half of February, and this resilient gord has been enjoying a long life off the vine due to the temperate winter weather conditions we’ve been experiencing in San Francisco.

The “pumpkin index” is a good indicator for knowing when it’s OK to brag about where you live to friends who live in cities with cold climates. Winter 2012 in San Francisco is currently trending high on the pumpkin index.

I recently visited the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. and came away with this animation of the waterfall located in the cafeteria in the East Building.

The National Gallery of Art East Building was designed by I.M. Pei & Partners. If you visit the museum it might be hard to tell who designed it, because it has become routine to rub the engraving of I.M. Pei on the wall.

I spend $2 on a cup of coffee almost daily, but whenever I stand in front of a bag of coffee that costs $15 and brews almost 50 cups I second-guess the purchase. Ultimately I buy the bag of coffee, but that’s the situation every time. Buying coffee is tough.

The drink is called Mets and it’s made by KIRIN, and honestly, that’s all I can really tell from the video. It appears to get you out of tough situations — like jumping though a cable car — when you’re tearing up the streets of San Francisco on a bike.
