In New York City, this is where umbrellas go to die…

When the bay starts to freeze over you know it’s cold outside. The water surrounding the dock pilings at Gilgo Beach has a thin layer of ice on top of it, and if this cold weather continues like it has we can forget about surfing and start thinking about ice skating.
Update: Reader Bill dropped this comment showing a similar photo of what the bay looks like during summer. West coast people, these are “seasons”.

Why does a deck of UNO cards seem to only appear when it’s raining outside? UNO should be the official game of rainy days. All this wet California weather got me thinking about UNO, so below are a few fun facts about the card game:

Long Island has raised a hall of fame list of rappers that includes the likes of Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and Busta Rhymes, but the list is still growing. If you haven’t heard the Briefkase Boyz yet, allow us to introduce you to a couple of Strong Island’s up and comers.
Briefkase Boyz – Briefkase Music
You can listen to Briefkase Music Vol. 1 in its entirety HERE.
The south shore of Long Island might have a serial killer on its hands. According to recent news, police found four badly decomposed bodies near Gilgo Beach. Some of the bodies were found wrapped in burlap sacks, which is why we are dubbing the potential serial killer as the “Burlap Sacker“.
Has anyone checked Bunger’s Gilgo Beach Surf Cam for any clues?
Scary stuff, but everyone should feel a little safer knowing that most of the dudes on Long Island’s south shore view the gym as their church and would absolutely love the opportunity to smash a Bud Light over that freakin’ serial killer’s head. WHAT?! WHAT?!

I recently came across an article posted on ESPN.com last month by Jon Coen, which discussed the possibility of having the east coast leg of the ASP World Tour in New York. As of right now, the east coast location is still TBD, but dates are set for September 3 – 12, 2011.
New York has good surf, and yes it would have a hard time holding up to the majority of locations on the tour (read: Pipeline, Bells Beach, Trestles, Jeffreys Bay, etc.), but the buzz around the event would be huge.
New York has a strong surf community, and given the proximity to New York City and it’s 8 million + inhabitants, it would be hard to say that the event wouldn’t draw a crowd.
One potential location is Long Beach, NY.
Who knows, we could get lucky and catch a good hurricane swell. What do you think, should the ASP World Tour come to New York?
My brother Chris put together this Christmas song mix last year. In the spirit of the season I thought it only right to share this list of holiday jams, so throw these into a Grooveshark playlist or go ahead and honestly pay for them somehow. Happy holidays!

This car doesn’t burn rubber, it eats it. But wait! The other awesome thing about this car (yeah, there’s something else…) is that it’s parked only four blocks from the Tiger House!
